Around Mt Eden, Epsom and other streets built on basalt, many properties send stormwater down private soakage holes bored into the rock instead of into a public pipe. Detergent sent down one of those soakages goes into groundwater, so on these sections wash water needs catching or diverting just as carefully as runoff heading for a street sump.
Auckland Council guidance keeps cleaning chemicals and wash water out of the stormwater system, and a soakage hole is part of that system. Ask whether the operator knows where the property drains, and whether it can locate the soakage cover before starting.
Waterfront streets in Herne Bay and Westmere, and the stretch from Ōrākei to St Heliers, add salt to the usual grime, so seaward walls and joinery tend to need more attention. Questions for a central quote: how will loose or possibly lead-based paint be handled, where will the van park, is the soakage or drain protected, and are fences and paths included.
