Contact the guide
Reader desk
The reader desk is the guide's single point of contact. It is an email address, not a phone line or a booking service, and every message gets a written reply within 5 working days.
What to write about
- A factual error: a wrong business name, website, service, area, price or register date, or a rule described incorrectly.
- A listing question: a business that believes it meets the rules but is not listed, or wants to know why it scored as it did.
- A removal request: a business asking to be taken off every list and table. These are honoured.
- The method: questions about the score, the eligibility rules or the data sources, and arguments for changing them.
- Suggestions: a trade, an area list or a neighbourhood profile the guide does not cover yet.
What helps a message get a quick answer
Include the page address, the business name if there is one, what you think is wrong and, where it exists, a public page that shows the correct information: the business's own website, a Companies Register entry or a council page. A business asking about its own listing should write from an address on its own domain or say how it can be verified, so a removal or change cannot be requested by someone else.
What the desk cannot do
It cannot quote for work, book a tradesperson, pass a job to a business or give advice about a particular house. For quotes, contact businesses directly through the website links on the lists. It also cannot change a position on a list on request: positions follow from the data and the method, and change only when the data does.
What happens after you write
Corrections are checked against the public source and, if confirmed, fixed on every page that carries the figure, with the change noted in the corrections log. Listing and method questions are answered in writing. Suggestions are added to the list considered at the next data refresh, and new pages are built only where there is enough checkable information to make them useful.
Messages are used only to deal with the request and to keep a record of corrections; they are not used for marketing or shared. The privacy page has the detail.
Before writing
Many questions are answered already: the methodology sets out every rule and weight, the corrections and removals policy explains how changes are made, and the about page covers who compiles the guide.
Disclosure: the publisher earns referral fees from some listed businesses and has a commercial interest in the referral services shown in a labelled box on some pages. Neither affects how messages to the reader desk are handled. Details are on the disclosure page.
